ABOUT I was born in downtown LA in 1969 and at age 5 moved to Carlsbad, CA, a sleepy little beach town (not so little any more) and have lived here ever since. I was given my first surfboard in 1977 at the age of 8. In junior high I started messing around with my Mom's 35mm SLR and in high school I started taking photography classes. In my late teens I started doing quick strike missions with friends over the border to surf in Mexico. In my early twenties I started to go on major surf trips abroad. After a few years of working to save money for these trips, I decided I wanted to work less and travel more! So I worked for two years, saved up all I could, and hit the road with three boards and an old Minolta SLR. I documented that trip for twelve months and when I finally got home and looked at the film I was so happy with the images I had created I was convinced that I wanted to do this for a living. So I built my first of many custom water housings and started swimming. After a good deal of trial and error I started to nail good images and submited them to all the surf magazines in California. In '97 I got my first spread in Surfing Magazine and in '99 I was hired on as Senior Photographer at Transworld Surf magazine. After leaving Transworld in '06 I shifted my focus from full time surf to commercial photography and started shooting lifestyle and product imagery. Over the the course of my career, I've been fortunate to travel the world many times over, work with amazing and talented people, meet locals, and learn about different cultures. Using these experiences has helped me build a successful business and allows me to continue to learn and push my photography.
