Raised on the beaches of Carlsbad, CA, I was given my first surfboard in 1978 at the age of nine. I got a hold of my first camera in junior high. Then in high school I started taking photography classes. I started going on surf trips in my early 20's. After a few years of working for 12 months then traveling for two, I decided I wanted to work less and travel more. I saved up for about two years and hit the road for one! I had a beat up old Minolta XGM with a 35-70mm lens and documented my surf trip around the world. When I finally returned home and got all my film back, I was so stoked on the images that I had captured. I was convinced that I could do it for a living. Without much money left in the bank, I decided to build my first of many water housings and started swimming. It took me a little while to get all the bugs worked out, but when I finally did I got my first spread published in SURFING magazine. I started submitting to all the surf mags in California and in 1999 was offered a spot as a senior photographer at TRANSWORLD SURF magazine. After leaving TRANSWORLD in 2006, I changed my focus to lifestyle and advertising imagery and have worked with various companies including Quiksilver and Roxy.
Over the course of my photography career, I've been fortunate to travel the world, work with amazing people, meet locals and learn different cultures. Using these experiences as I build my freelance business in lifestyle imagery, I continue to learn and push my photography to new and exciting places that I never thought possible.
